Features and RoadMap

Release 1 (March, 2009)

The current version of InfoStrat.VE supports these features:

VEMap and SurfaceVEMap:

Displays the (rectangular) Bing Maps 3D map
Use WPF data binding to control various map properties:
- Latitude and Longitude
- Altitude
- Roll, Pitch, and Yaw
- Map Mode (Aerial, Hybrid, Road)
- 3D Cursor (WPF only)
- Show 3D Buildings
Simple functions allow cinematic FlyTo a location
Supports children objects such as pure WPF-based VEPushPin and SurfaceVEPushPin objects
- Child objects automatically track a Latitude and Longitude on the map
- Map can use VEPushPins through data binding, just like a ListBox or other ItemsControl
- VEPushPins have optional max/min altitude and parent pushpin for grouping purposes
You can inherit VEPushPin and SurfaceVEPushPin and create your own custom look and behavior

SurfaceVEMap only:

Multi-touch/gesture manipulations for controlling Latitude and Longitude (pan) and Altitude (zoom)
Data binding for Pan and Zoom gesture sensitivity (SurfaceVEMap only)

Sample applications:

Demonstrates basic data binding
Shows simple VEPushPin operations

Release 2 (January 2010)

Release 2 added a Win7TouchVEMap control, better map movement algorithms, new manipulations for pivoting and tilting, plus a dozen community generated feature requests or bug fixes.

December 2011 and beyond

The Bing Maps 3D control upon which this control is based has been discontinued by Microsoft. It still works and the services it uses are still alive (as of February, 2012) but we are no longer actively developing InfoStrat.VE. See these links for more information:

Hi , I am in a hoorible situation. I working in surface application. I have added the namespace given below to my suracewindow1.xaml : xmlns:m="clr-namespace:InfoStrat.VE.NUI;assembly=InfoStrat.VE.NUI" I wrote the tag for creating surface map : <m:SurfaceVEMap x:Name="map" MapStyle="Hybrid" /> The Problem is: If i run my surface application in Surface simulator, there is no map control is shown by the surface simulator. But if i run in wpf application, the map control is runned sucessfully Please Please,do help me to overcome this problem. I am using Bing maps sdk downloaded from : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=e9298080-50c4-4f2e-9fc4-4009074996ba&displaylang=en Surface 1.0 servicepack & Surace 1.0 workstation edition - surface simulator Operating system : Windows 7 Thanks in Advance, Siva dharman

I'm having a slight problem acquiring the references "InfoStrat.VE.dll" & "InfoStrat.VE.NUI.dll" They don't seem to be available for selection. Where can I retrieve them?

Subcreation, The source code for the control and the example project is available from the download tab. A more recent source tree is also available from the source code tab. Have you downloaded the source and compiled and run the sample project? Also for future reference, it is easier to track specific questions if you create a thread on the discussion tab, rather than post a comment here, which I don't see all the time. The discussion threads are very recent and active, and people use InfoStrat.VE all the time. I get an XamlParseException when I try to implement this (with exactly what SergeCalderara posted above). I have VE3D installed and I was able to run the example EXE. An example project with source code would be far more useful. I see many of the posts here are months old. Has anyone used this succesfully recently?

I have follows how to integrate and test that control in a WPF application. I have downloaded the Virtual 3D controls. Then when runing my sample I get following exception : Could not load file or assembly 'InfoStrat.VE, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=a464bcc72081fceb' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. Error at object 'System.Windows.Controls.Grid' in markup file 'map;component/window1.xaml' Line 7 Position 10. I simply past it as follwo in my XAML : <Window x:Class="map.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:ve="clr-namespace:InfoStrat.VE;assembly=InfoStrat.VE" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300"> <Grid> <ve:VEMap></ve:VEMap> </Grid> </Window> Any idea what is mmissing or wrong ? Getting Started

Requirements

To compile and run this project, you need to have the following installed:

.NET Framework 3.5 SP1
Bing Maps 3D (7/9/2009 or later)
- If you have visited http://maps.bing.com and clicked the 3D button recently, then you are already updated

For the SurfaceVEMap, you'll need either a Microsoft Surface device or the Microsoft Surface SDK Workstation Edition, including the simulator.

The source code project files are for Visual Studio 2008.

Download

Visit the Releases tab above and download the binaries.

Add References

Create or open your WPF project in Visual Studio and add a reference to InfoStrat.VE.dll for WPF apps:

Add both InfoStrat.VE.dll and InfoStrat.VE.NUI.dll for Surface apps:

For Windows 7 Touch apps, add InfoStrat.VE.dll, Infostrat.VE.Windows7Touch.dll, Wnidows7.Multitouch.dll, and Windows7.Multitouch.WPF.dll.

Add VEMap

Add the namespace reference:

<xmlns:ve="clr-namespace:InfoStrat.VE;assembly=InfoStrat.VE">

Then add a VEMap (or SurfaceVEMap) control to your XAML. (Alternately instantiate it in code and add it to the UI tree manually.)

Run!

Now you are good to go! Try adding VEPushPin objects as children to the VEMAP and set the Latitude and Longitude properties of VEPushPin.

Project Summary

This control provides a WPF interface for the Bing Maps 3D control, complete with data binding for camera control and WPF-based pushpins. All Win32 restrictions (air space control, no rotation or visual brush) are eliminated. Microsoft Surface and Win 7 Touch are also supported.

Bing Maps 3D (formerly Virtual Earth 3D) has many applications, but until recently has only been practical on the web with a javascript interface. WPF applications could not use it to its full potential without requiring a WPF wizard and some XAML magic due to Win32 interop limitations.
